Ken, Sandra and Susan Wakeen

The Tale of Two Twins, and Two Generations of Artists

It is rare to find siblings having distinguished careers in similar fields. Even rarer when they are twins. The twins, Sandra Wakeen and Susan Wakeen have both enjoyed illustrious careers in their chosen disciplines. Susan a sculptor and Sandra a painter, have both received honors and awards from Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, and Art Renewal Center, to name a few.

Ken Wakeen, Sandra and Susan’s father, was an engineer by trade and artist by his passion. He began his art career at the age of thirty-five. Ken had his first introduction to studying art with the venerable Frank Cavino. Art would become his passion for the next fifty years. He delighted in painting for the pure pleasure of painting. He found inspiration in his daily life. Painting powerful equestrian paintings to serene Cape Cod vistas and impressionist still lifes was his joy.

Sandra and Susan continue to follow in their father’s footsteps, living their daily lives creating in their studios.

“Dad's inspiration and enthusiasm for creating art was contagious. He taught us about living life as an artist by his example” -SW.
